Dr. Karim Punja is an eye specialist in Calgary, Alberta. He is an ASOPRS trained and certified Ophthalmologist and surgeon with a thriving Oculoplastic Fellowship program which he directs. His expertise is sought out by his colleagues and peers on regular basis. His regular contributions to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and many other publications have made him an expert in his field. His main base is Orbit Eye Centre in Calgary, however, he routinely works out of the Rockyview Hospital Eye Clinic and other medical facilities.
His further post-graduate experience included fellowships at the University of Ottawa in Ocular Pathology and the University of California, San Diego for Ophthalmic Facial, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery.
He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has certifications by the American Board of Ophthalmology and American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
Karim returned home to Calgary and has practiced here for fifteen years. He continues his research through Queen’s University and the University of Ottawa. He has been honored with teaching awards both at the University of Calgary and the University of California, San Diego. He is often asked to make professional presentations due to his international reputation for expertise in his field.
Dr. Chirag Shah is a medical retinal specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist. He has completed two fellowships. The first was in Anterior Segment and Refractive surgery at the Gimbel Eye Centre, Alberta and the second in Medical Retina at the University of Toronto, Ontario. His practice areas focus on retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal detachments, retinopathy of prematurity (blinding retinal disease in premature babies), diabetic retinopathy, hereditary eye diseases, and hypertensive retinopathy.
Dr. Shah received the top mark in his ophthalmology residency from Gujarat University, India and was awarded the gold medal in medical school. Dr. Shah has received the Fellow of Ophthalmology certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Calgary. Dr. Shah is regularly published as both the lead and supporting the author and a regular public speaker, educator, and presenter. He has presented his research at international conferences and is a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Retina, and Retinal Cases & Brief Reports journals. Chirag teaches medical students, residents, and optometry students.

Dr. Ammar Khan is an eye physician & surgeon with advanced training in glaucoma. He is a local Calgarian, and completed medical school, a five-year residency in ophthalmology and a one-year fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Calgary. He is dual board certified in both Canada and the United States. Dr. Khan has published research in major academic journals on topics ranging from glaucoma to cataract surgery and has been invited to speak and present his research at national and international conferences.
Dr. Khan belongs to several professional associations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, Canadian Medical Association, Alberta Medical Association, Canadian Ophthalmological Society, American Board of Ophthalmology and Eye Physicians & Surgeons Association of Alberta.
Dr. Khan is one of five glaucoma subspecialists practicing in Southern Alberta. He is excited to look after patients in his hometown of Calgary and is accepting referrals for glaucoma and general ophthalmology.
