Botox Injections are treatments for wrinkles around the eyes and on the face. At Orbit Eye Centre, our Calgary Botox specialists will help you get a more youthful look.
Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles and relaxes them to prevent the forming of wrinkles known as crow’s feet, worry lines, and laugh lines. It is also used for uncontrolled blinking (blepharospasm).
The anti-wrinkle effects of a Botox injection last for 3 to 4 months. Botox injections are a safe procedure and can be a good alternative to surgery.
Multiple factors can cause facial lines. Those include cellular changes, reduction of collagen, damage from the sun and environment, and repeated muscle contractions from frowning and smiling. Botox works by limiting the muscle activity that can cause frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines to appear over time. Botox prevents wrinkles from forming over time, helping them to look smoother and preserving a more youthful look.
By limiting muscle activity, Botox can also relieve various conditions such as eye or facial spasms.
The main contradictions to using Botox are pregnancy, nursing or previous allergy to Botox.
Short term side effects of a Botox injection include weakness and drooping of the eyelids or corners of the mouth depending on which area is injected.
These side effects occur in fewer than 2% of Botox injections, and they go away as the Botox wears off.
Botox injections can also cause mild bruising, which should wear off within few days.
Having a meal or a snack before the injection is encouraged.
Taking all routine medications is also allowed except for blood thinners like aspirin, warfarin.
We advise NOT to discontinue any medication without consulting this with a physician.
After Botox injections, it is advised that patients spend some time “exercising” their facial muscles. This will help move the medication into the muscles where it will take effect. Those “facial exercises” include squinting, frowning, and making various facial gestures to use your muscles.
After Botox injections, patients should follow the following steps:
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled about 15 days after the injection to ensure patients are satisfied with the result.
Botox injections are temporary treatments. This means that patients can expect the effects of Botox to last from 3 to 4 months.
Please note: There is a $150 rescheduling fee for this procedure if you cancel or reschedule your appeasement with less than 48hrs notice.
Please Note: There is a $150 rescheduling fee for this procedure if you cancel or reschedule your appointment with less than 7 days’ notice.
Botox has many uses in medicine. For example, at Orbit’s Botox Clinic, we use Botox to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe wrinkles on the face, focusing on the eye area. We also use Botox for patients with a condition called Blepharospasm to help temporarily relieve muscle twitches around the eyes.
On average, Botox injections last about 3 months.
If used correctly by a board-certified specialist, Botox injections are considered safe.
Botulinum toxin, otherwise known as Botox, is a medication injected into muscles where it temporarily prevents them from moving.
Botox injection prices are standard across the industry, but the final cost depends on how much product is used and where it is injected.
